Emil Taubert was a German philologist , writer, and librettist, and the son of famous German composer and conductor Wilhelm Taubert. Emil studied philology and philosophy at the university level. However, unlike his father's path to becoming an accomplished musician, composer, and conductor, Emil did not choose a career in music. Instead, he dedicated himself to literature and writing, resulting in a few works that are still remembered today.

Because of his father's fame and influence, Emil had the opportunity to meet many notable musicians and composers of his time. However, he was never drawn to music as a career or as a subject of study. Instead, he became a respected writer and scholar, producing critical editions of Goethe's works and several important books on emotions, particularly compassion and its role in morality and religion.

While Emil Taubert never achieved the same level of fame as his father, he was a noteworthy figure in his own right, known for his intellect, wit, and literary contributions. Despite his lack of involvement in music, Emil undoubtedly benefitted from the influence of both his father and the many talented musicians he encountered throughout his life. It is clear that the Taubert family was an influential and talented group, with each member contributing to the arts in their own unique way.
