Eibhlis Farrell is an Irish composer who was born on 20th April 1953 in County Waterford, Ireland. She is a renowned figure in the contemporary music scene, identified for her classic and rigorous approach to composition and a beautiful sense of melody. Farrell went to study music at University College Cork, where she received her Ph.D. in composition.

Farrell has written numerous works like orchestral, choral, chamber music, electro-acoustic music, and music for dance. Her unique approach to instrumentation and sound amalgamation has garnered praise and attention for her works. One of her significant works is her opera "The Second Violinist," which was premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival in 2017, receiving great critical acclaim.

Farrell has also received numerous honours and awards for her contributions to contemporary music composition. In 1995, she became an elected member of the Aosdána, the foremost artistic organization in Ireland. In 1999, she was commissioned as the "Composer of the Year" by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. Currently, Farrell serves as a professor of music at Trinity College Dublin and a guest lecturer at various establishments worldwide.
