Full biography Edwin Astley
Edwin Astley (1922-1998) was a British composer known for his work on British television themes and scores. He was born in Warrington, Cheshire, and started his career as a music arranger for big bands in the 1940s. After serving in World War II, he returned to the music industry and began writing for films in the 1950s.
Astley rose to fame in the 1960s as a composer for television shows, and is perhaps best known for his work on the iconic theme music for the British TV series "The Saint," starring Roger Moore. He also composed scores for other popular shows of the era, including "Danger Man," "The Baron," and "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)."
Astley was a prolific composer, with credits on over 200 films and TV shows throughout his career. He often worked with producer Hannah Weinstein, and their collaboration led to Astley being asked to write the music for many of her productions.
In addition to his work as a composer , Astley was also known for his skill as an arranger and conductor. He worked with several well-known musicians throughout his career, including The Beatles, and arranged music for several of their songs.
Astley passed away in 1998 at the age of 76, but his work as a composer continues to be celebrated today. His music is still recognizable and beloved by many fans of classic British television, and he is remembered as one of the most iconic and influential composers of his time.
