David Froom (December 14 , 1951 - June 19, 2022) was an American composer who is known for his works for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, and orchestra. He received numerous commissions from renowned performers and organizations such as The Cassatt String Quartet, The Verdehr Trio, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the American Composers Orchestra.

Froom was born in New York City and earned his B.A. in music from Princeton University and his doctorate in composition from The Juilliard School. His music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. The New York Times has described his style as "inventive, full of wit and color" and his works have been praised for their originality and emotional depth.

Froom was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Rome Prize and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He was also a professor of music at St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he taught composition, theory, and orchestration.

Some of Froom's notable works include "Before the Dawn" for alto saxophone and piano, "Turn of Events" for saxophone and piano, and his Sonata for Solo Violin. In addition to his classical compositions, he also wrote extensively for television, radio, and film.
