David Conte is a prominent contemporary American composer known for his contributions to the world of classical music. Born in 1955, Conte has written over 150 works that have been published by E.C. Schirmer, including operas, musicals, and works for chorus. Among these works, his opera "The Gift of the Magi" has received more than 30 productions in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Conte has achieved much recognition and success throughout his career as a composer. In 2007, he received the Raymond Brock commission from the American Choral Directors Association. Additionally, Conte co-wrote the film score for the acclaimed documentary "Ballets Russes," and his compositions have been performed by prestigious organizations such as the San Francisco Symphony , the Baltimore Symphony, and the New York Choral Society.
Aside from his work in music composition, Conte is also a professor of Composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In an interview with the institution, Conte reflected on the pivotal moment in his life when he decided to attend Paris and study with Nadia Boulanger when he was just 19 years old.
