David Abell is a well-known American conductor, composer, and arranger. He was born on February 24, 1957, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, United States. He is best known for his work as the music director for The Philly POPS and as a guest conductor for various symphony orchestras around the world.
Abell began his musical career as a trumpet player in his school orchestra before moving into conducting. He studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music before beginning his career as a resident conductor with Houston Grand Opera. He has also worked as a guest conductor with the Boston Pops, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others.
In addition to conducting, Abell is also a prolific composer and arranger. His work includes arrangements for musicals such as Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Crazy for You. He has also written original works, including the chamber opera "The Black Swan".
Some of Abell's most notable achievements include conducting the world premiere of "The Gershwins' An American in Paris" with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2008, and the Emmy-nominated production of "Stephen Sondheim's Passion" on Live from Lincoln Center.
