Full biography Daniel Pinkham
Daniel Pinkham was an American composer, organist, and harpsichordist, born on June 5, 1923, in Lynn, Massachusetts. He passed away on December 18 , 2006, at the age of 83. Pinkham was a well-known figure in the world of classical music with a prolific career of many decades. He studied at Harvard University with Walter Piston and Aaron Copland, as well as with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.
Pinkham was a versatile musician who composed more than 250 works ranging from symphonies and concertos to chamber music, choral works, and solo pieces. His works have been performed by many prestigious ensembles, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was a professor of music at Simmons College and also taught at Harvard University, Boston University, and the New England Conservatory of Music.
Pinkham was known for his interest in early music, and he often incorporated elements of Renaissance and Baroque music into his compositions. He also had a particular interest in choral music and frequently collaborated with choir directors and music ensembles to create new works for the choir. Pinkham was a recipient of many awards for his contributions to music, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
Throughout his career, Pinkham remained an active performer and frequently gave organ and harpsichord performances. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Organ Historical Society, and he was often invited to perform at prestigious events.
