Daniel Gottlob Trk (1750-1813) was a notable German composer , organist, music theorist, and pedagogue of the Classical period. He is particularly known for his contributions to keyboard music, including his collection of useful miniatures for aspiring pianists known as the "Kleine Handstücke für angehende Klavierspieler" (Small Pieces for Aspiring Pianists).
Trk was born in the present-day Czech Republic and spent most of his career in Germany, where he held various positions as an organist and music teacher. He was also active as a composer, having written numerous works for keyboard, including sonatas, variations, fugues, and preludes.
In addition to his keyboard music, Trk was also known as a music theorist and pedagogue. He wrote several influential books on music theory and keyboard technique, including his most famous work, "Klavierschule" (Piano School), which was first published in 1789 and later became a standard textbook for pianists in Germany and beyond.
Despite his significant contributions to keyboard music and music theory, Trk remained relatively unknown in the world of music until the 20th century, when his works began to receive greater recognition and appreciation. Today, he is widely regarded as a significant figure in the history of keyboard music and a notable representative of the Classical period.
