Short bio Daniel Bacheler
Full biography Daniel Bacheler
Daniel Bacheler (1572-1619) was an English lutenist and composer of the Renaissance era. He was born in Buckinghamshire and started his music career as a child prodigy by performing for Queen Elizabeth I. Later, he was appointed as a musician-in-ordinary for King James I.
Bacheler's music was known for its unique and complex harmonies. He was a contemporaneous of John Dowland, and the two composers admired each other's work. Bacheler was known for writing galliards, a lively dance popular in the 16th century. One of his most popular works is "En Me Revenant", which is believed to be a popular song during that time.
Bacheler's surviving music is found in a set of partbooks for Walsingham's courtiers , which he himself probably copied at the young age of 16. Some of his notable works include "A Pavin", "Fantasie", and "Prelude".
Today, Bacheler is recognized as one of the most innovative English lutenists of his time. His music not only exemplifies the skill and elegance of Renaissance music, but also demonstrates the influence of popular songs and dances of that era.
