Full biography Christopher Gibbons
Christopher Gibbons was an English composer and organist born in 1615. He hailed from a family of musicians, with his father being the well-known composer and keyboard player Orlando Gibbons. It is believed that Christopher received early training from his father.
Christopher Gibbons went on to make a name for himself as a composer in his own right. He composed music for voice, keyboard, and various instruments. Some of his works, such as the anthem "O Clap Your Hands," are still performed today.
He also collaborated with other composers of his time, including his father. With Orlando Gibbons, he wrote the music for James Shirley's "Cupid and Death." He also worked with Matthew Locke on several productions for the stage.
Christopher Gibbons lived through a tumultuous time in English history, with the country experiencing civil war and the rise of the Puritanical government. Despite this, he continued to compose music and hold positions as an organist at various churches and at the royal court.
Today, Christopher Gibbons is remembered as a talented composer and musician who contributed to the rich musical history of England during the Baroque period.
