Charles Mayer was a Prussian pianist and composer who lived in the early 19th century. Born on March 21, 1799, he was also known as Carl Mayer or Charles Meyer ). Mayer wrote almost 200 works during his lifetime, including solo piano pieces, chamber music, and orchestral music.

He was a prolific teacher and his most prominent pupils included the Russian pianist and composer Mikhail Glinka and Polish composer Filipina Brzezinska-Szymanowska. Mayer's style was transitional, incorporating elements of classical and romantic music, and he was greatly respected for his technical skill as a pianist.

One of his most famous works is the "Valse Mélancolique" (Melancholic Waltz) which is still performed today. Another noteworthy piece is his "Le Regret" which is a sentimental and melancholic waltz for solo piano.

Despite his many accomplishments, Charles Mayer is not a well-known composer today, but his contributions to music during his time are highly valued.
