Charles-Hubert Gervais was a French Baroque composer, born in Paris in 1671 and passing away at the age of 72 in 1744. He studied music in his youth and composed primarily for the stage, including operas and ballets. Gervais also composed vocal music, such as motets and cantatas. He worked for several aristocratic patrons throughout his career and was eventually appointed as the intendant of the Duke of Orleans' musical establishment. Gervais collaborated with a number of French composers, including Philippe Courbois and Marc-Antoine Charpentier. One of his notable works is the opera "Renaud et Armide," which he co-wrote with his later intendant, Philip de Bourbon. Gervais is remembered for his contributions to French Baroque music, particularly in the genre of opera.
