Cesar Thomson was a Belgian violinist, composer, and teacher who lived from 1857 to 1931. He was considered as one of the most important composers of his generation. Thomson began his music studies with the renowned Belgian violinist and composer Henri Vieuxtemps. Later, he continued his violin training in Brussels with Csar-Auguste Franck, the father of modern French composition. Thomson also studied composition with Franck and later with Eugne Ysae.

In addition to being a talented performer, Thomson was a prolific composer. He wrote numerous works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice, and piano. His music is known for its lyrical melodies and harmonic richness, often infused with folk-like elements. Some of his most famous works include "La Nuit sur la Mer" and "La Fileuse."

Thomson also had an illustrious teaching career and served as a professor of violin at the Brussels Conservatory from 1897 until 1927. He also taught at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and the Geneva Conservatory.

Despite his significant contributions to the music world, Thomson's name is not as well-known as some of his contemporaries. However, his music continues to be performed and recorded today.
