Cesar Bresgen was an Austrian composer, born on December 24, 1913, in Steyr, Austria. He studied at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg with the prominent Austrian composer Franz Schmidt. In addition to his studies with Schmidt, he also studied composition with Johann Nepomuk David and Clemens Glettenberg at the State Academy of Music in Munich.
Bresgen's music was influenced by his travels, and he frequently incorporated folk melodies and rhythms from different countries into his compositions. He is perhaps best known for his choral works, which often set sacred texts to folk-inspired melodies and harmonies. His other works included cantatas, operas, instrumental music, and music for films and theater productions.
Bresgen was also known for his work as an educator and musicologist, and he frequently gave lectures and workshops on music and folk traditions. He served as the director of the music department at a teacher's college in Salzburg from 1956 to 1974.
Cesar Bresgen passed away on April 7, 1988, at the age of 74. Despite his relatively short life, he left behind a legacy of music that was both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition.
