Full biography Camillo Togni
Camillo Togni was an Italian composer, pianist, and teacher who was born in Gussago, Brescia on October 18, 1922. He comes from a family of independent wealth and began his music education at the Conservatory of Milan, studying with noted teachers such as Gianandrea Gavazzeni and Ernesto Consolo.
Togni's early compositions were influenced by the works of Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg, and he became known for his use of dodecaphonic (12-tone) techniques. He produced a significant catalog of works, including operas, chamber music, and orchestral pieces. In 1968, he won the prestigious Prix Italia for his opera "La Besancon," which was performed at the Venice Biennale.
Togni was also invited to teach at several institutions, including the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome and the Paris Conservatory. He was known for his emphasis on the spiritual aspect of music and his belief that "music is a means of communication from the soul."
Togni passed away on November 28, 1993, in Milan, leaving behind a legacy of important and influential compositions. Despite not being widely known outside of Italy, Togni's music has received renewed attention in recent years, with performers and researchers alike recognizing the value of his work in advancing the techniques of 20th-century composition.
