Short bio Bernardo Pasquini
Full biography Bernardo Pasquini
Bernardo Pasquini (1637-1710) was an Italian Baroque composer known for his contributions to opera, oratorios, cantatas and keyboard music. He composed no fewer than sixteen operas between 1671 and 1692, and also produced a significant amount of keyboard music that includes toccatas, preludes, sonatas, and variations, which were highly regarded by his contemporaries.
Pasquini was considered one of the major Italian composers for keyboard music between Girolamo Frescobaldi and Domenico Scarlatti and was renowned in his day as a virtuoso keyboard player. He also contributed to music education by teaching keyboard and composition to notable names such as Johann Kuhnau, Johann Philipp Krieger, and Christoph Graupner.
Pasquini was influenced by the reigning music styles of his time, including the vocal monody and instrumental innovations of the Roman school as well as the French and German Baroque styles. Pasquini's music displays his mastery of technique and ornamentation, coupled with a flair for drama.
Pasquini's contributions to Baroque music were significant and his music continues to be studied and performed today. Not only was he a successful composer of opera and keyboard music, but he was also an influential teacher and educator who had a significant impact on the development of Baroque music in Italy.
