Ariel Ramirez was a renowned Argentine composer, pianist and music director who lived between September 4, 1921, and February 18, 2010. During his career, he wrote more than 300 compositions that were popular in Argentina, Latin America and beyond.

One of his most famous pieces is the Misa Criolla, which he composed in 1964. The Misa Criolla is a Catholic mass, but Ramirez made it unique by incorporating the rhythms and styles of Argentine folk music. This groundbreaking piece of music became hugely popular in Argentina and around the world.

Aside from his work on the Misa Criolla, Ramirez composed many other works that reflected his love of Argentine music and culture. He was also known for his collaborations with other artists, including lyricist Flix Luna, with whom he wrote his other major success the “Mujeres Argentinas” cantata.

Throughout his career, Ramirez received multiple awards and honors, including the Konex Award in 1985, recognising him as one of the most important Argentine musicians of the 20th century. Despite his landmark musical achievements, Ramirez remained a humble individual who was deeply connected to his roots and his culture.

Today, Ramirez's legacy lives on, and his music continues to inspire and move people around the world.
