Short bio Anton Stamitz
Full biography Anton Stamitz
Anton Stamitz was a composer and violinist who was born in Mannheim on May 27, 1750, and passed away in Jena on November 11, 1798. He was the son of Johann Stamitz, a prominent composer and violinist, and the brother of Carl Stamitz, who was also a composer and violinist.
Anton Stamitz's contributions to music were overshadowed by his father and brother, but he was a talented composer in his own right. He worked as a violinist in the Mannheim Court Orchestra, where his father was also employed, and later became the director of music at the University of Jena.
Anton Stamitz's repertoire consists primarily of instrumental music, including symphonies, chamber music, and concertos. His music shows the influence of the Mannheim School, of which his father and brother were key figures.
One of Anton Stamitz's most well-known compositions is his Concerto in G major for flute and orchestra, which is still performed today. This concerto highlights his skill in crafting melodies and his use of solo instruments within an orchestral context.
Despite his contributions to classical music, Anton Stamitz is not as well-known as his father and brother, but his music remains an important part of the Mannheim School's legacy.
