Alphonse Hasselmans was a Belgian-born French harpist and composer , who lived from 1845 to 1912. He was renowned for his skills as a harpist and he helped to establish the harp as a solo instrument in the late 19th century. Hasselmans is considered by many to be a minor composer, but he was an important figure in harp playing in his time and is still well respected today.

Hasselmans studied at the Paris Conservatory under famous harpist, composer and teacher Alphonse-Joseph Chabrier, and he became a professor himself at the same institution. He also served as the principal harpist for the Paris Opera, and his performances were said to be very expressive and full of emotion.

As a composer, Hasselmans wrote many pieces for the harp, including études, preludes, and other solo works. He also transcribed music for the harp, including works by Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann.
