Alessandro Besozzi (July 22, 1702 - July 26, 1793) was an Italian composer and virtuoso oboist. He was born in Parma, Italy, and was a member of the ducal chapel there before moving to Turin to become the virtuoso oboe for the Duke of Savoy's court.
Besozzi was a prolific composer, and he wrote over a hundred sonatas, 65 trios, and six oboe concertos, among other works. His compositions were characterized by their technical difficulties, which were designed to showcase the oboe's capabilities. Besozzi's music was also known for its expressive and emotional qualities, which he achieved through his use of harmonic progressions and melodic ornamentations.
In addition to his compositions, Besozzi was also renowned as a performer, and his virtuosity and expressive playing style influenced many other oboists and composers of his time. He also taught the oboe to many students, including Johann Christian Fischer, who went on to become a prominent oboist and composer in his own right.
Today, Besozzi's music continues to be performed and enjoyed by oboists and music lovers around the world, and his contributions to the development of the oboe as a solo instrument and to the repertoire of chamber music are widely recognized and celebrated.
