Albert Grisar (1808-1869) was a Belgian composer who created many comic operas and was active mainly in France. He was born in Antwerp on December 26, 1808. In 1839, he collaborated with Friedrich von Flotow, Albert Grisar, and Auguste Pilati on Le naufrage de la Méduse, which was performed at the Paris Opéra. Grisar also wrote a version of Il Barbiere di Siviglia in the same year , titled La Caravane du Caire.

Grisar's best-known work is the one-act comic opera La chatte merveilleuse (The Marvellous Cat), which premiered in 1840 and was performed frequently in French theatres. He also created several other comic operas, including La marquise de Brinvilliers (1841) and Les apaches à Paris (1851).

In addition to his work in opera, Grisar composed a wide range of other music, including instrumental works such as piano pieces, overtures, and chamber music. He was known for his ability to produce light, playful music that was popular with audiences.

Grisar's music was largely forgotten after his death, but has recently regained some attention from scholars and music lovers. Some have noted his ability to create charming and entertaining music within the confines of the comic opera genre.
