Airat Ichmouratov is a Canadian composer, clarinetist, and conductor who has written over sixty compositions that range from solo to orchestral works. He was born in Kazan, the capital city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, in 1973, and began his musical education in the Kazan Music College. He continued his education at the Kazan State Conservatory and later at the Université Laval in Québec City, Canada, where he settled in 1998.
Ichmouratov's music is highly influenced by his Tatar and Oriental roots, blending elements of traditional Tatar and Eastern music with Western classical music. His works often focus on melody and rhythm, and he has a talent for creating colorful orchestration with unique timbres.
He has received numerous awards, including the national Russian award "For services to the Fatherland," and his music has been performed by notable ensembles such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
