In the music world, declamation is the way in which composers set words to music for singers to perform, using the rhythms of the language or the rising or falling of the pitch to express the text. Declamation can also refer to a type of singing style that has a speech-like quality known as recitative. Lesson.

Chord inversions simply means to play the same notes, only in a different order. So for example, you could play the C Major chord pictured above in all three of these ways: C Major – Root Position. C Major – 1st Inversion.

Chords, in standard notation, are notated as a group of notes stacked together. A chord symbol describes the notes that make up a chord without specifically telling you what notes to play. Chord symbols are written above the top staff of the written music.

This literally means ”sounding together”. Homophonic music is played in block chords. Homophonic music is also sometimes called chordal music. An example can be found at the end of “And the Glory of the Lord” from Handel's Messiah.
