noun. a musical score having the parts condensed or simplified in two staves, to render the music playable on the piano by one person.

Chord Reduction. Most of the time when analyzing music, you will find chords that span over several octaves and contain more than just three notes. In order to analyze chords we must perform a form of reduction where certain elements are removed. These elements are the redundant pitches.

In my experience, harmonic reduction is usually a way of removing (reducing) the “unnecessary” chords - ie, removing the chords that are not imperative to the function of the progression. For example, you could reduce C, A7, Dm7, G7 to just C, G7. Why? Well, because Dm7 is simply a way of setting up the G7 chord.

here are six basic rules that I humbly submit when considering a piano reduction:

1. Don't consider it – do it.
2. Know what to omit.
3. Keep the melody and the bass parts.
4. Maintain the vertical harmonies, but remove those unison notes.
5. Always maintain the rhythmic integrity, but…

You can keep the top lid closed and use a fold-able music stand for your sheet music. Place piano casters underneath the wheels to reduce sound vibrations into the floor. You can attach acoustic foam underneath the piano or place a large ottoman under it to disperse the sound waves that are coming straight down.
