The musical form called rap is basically rhythmic, rhyming speech. Rap is the most important part of a way of life called hip-hop culture. Many people call the music that rappers use hip-hop music. Rap songs often tell stories about rappers and their backgrounds.

Rap music is the combination of rhyming and poetry to a beat. It is part of the Hip-Hop genre, which involves lyrics over fast-paced music. Some people have described Hip-Hop as a way of life and a subculture, while rap is a specific genre of music.

Rap is original poetry recited in rhythm and rhyme over prerecorded instrumental tracks. Rap music (also referred to as rap or hip-hop music) evolved in conjunction with the cultural movement called hip-hop.

In my view, and in the view of my music theorist father who went to music school, there are three elements to music. There is harmony, there is melody and there is rhythm. Rap only fulfills one of these, the rhythm section.

Singing typically involves sustained notes, varying pitch and tone, and melodic phrasing, whereas rap involves rhythmic and rhyming speech delivered in a more spoken-word style.
