Texture in music refers to the effect of the different layers of sound in a piece of music, and the relationship between them. Layers of sound are the different things which are happening at the same time in a piece of music. There could be a guitar playing, a voice singing, drums playing and a piano too.

In music, a medley is a piece composed from parts of existing pieces played one after another, sometimes overlapping. They are common in popular music, and most medleys are songs rather than instrumentals.

If you can't decide which of three songs to play, why not play a medley? A medley is one piece of music, made up of passages from other songs. Medley comes from the Old French word medlee which meant - eek! - hand-to-hand combat.

Texture is the physical feel of something - smooth, rough, fuzzy, slimy, and lots of textures something in between. Sandpaper is very rough - it has a gritty, rough texture. Other things, like linoleum, have a smooth texture. Texture has to do with how an object feels and it's ingredients.

Examples of Homophony A singer accompanied by a guitar picking or strumming chords. A small jazz combo with a bass, a piano, and a drum set providing the "rhythm" background for a trumpet improvising a solo. A single bagpipes or accordion player playing a melody with drones or chords.

Melody simply means a tune. A medley is a piece of music made up of several existing pieces of music, collected and arranged in some way for performance. An example might be a piece made up of five traditional songs, arranged for string orchestra.

Examples of medleys include musicians playing 'mashups' or combinations of other songs. Now, the chords and harmony of the song all stay the same throughout, but because the lyrics and melodies change we can consider each new song a new letter. Another medley example is this “Beach Boys Medley” by The Beach Boys.

Medley is a piece of music made up of a series of short tunes: “The actor performed on the medley of songs of the best of his movies in the award ceremony.” Melody is a pleasant and pleasing arrangement of sounds: “The pianist played a mellifluous melody and won several accolades from the audience.”

Fortissimo is a dynamic marking that means 'very loud' and is often abbreviated ff. It is an Italian word that literally translates to 'very strong.
