Short bio Woldemar Bargiel
Full biography Woldemar Bargiel
Woldemar Bargiel (1828-1897) was a German composer and conductor. He is most known for his string octets, of which he composed two. Besides teaching and composing, Bargiel served as co-editor of the complete editions of Robert Schumann's and Frédéric Chopin's works with Johannes Brahms. Although Bargiel did not write a lot of music compared to other composers , most of what he composed was of high quality and represented clear and original sonata-form structures. Bargiel also wrote sonatas for violin and piano , piano duets, and an orchestral piece, "Overture for a Tragedy, Op.18". Bargiel was the younger half-brother of Clara Schumann , a famous pianist and composer of the Romantic era. Woldemar Bargiel died on February 23, 1897, at the age of 68.
