Full biography William Schuman
William Schuman was an American composer and educator who was born in New York City on August 4, 1910, and passed away on February 15, 1992. He was named after the 27th U.S. President, William Howard Taft. Schuman began composing in high school and went on to study under the influential composer Roy Harris. He went on to teach at Sarah Lawrence College, the Juilliard School, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where he served as the first president.
