Vinko Globokar is a Slovenian-French composer, trombonist, and conductor who is known for his innovative approach to music. Born on July 7, 1934, in Anderny, France, Globokar grew up in Yugoslavia and began playing the trombone at a young age.

Globokar studied music at the Zagreb Academy of Music and later at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied composition with René Leibowitz and trombone with Branimir Slokar. He became heavily involved in the avant-garde music scene and began experimenting with new forms of music.

As a composer, Globokar is known for his use of unconventional techniques, such as extended techniques on instruments, aleatory (chance) music, and the incorporation of everyday sounds and noises into his compositions. He has also written numerous works for solo instrument and for chamber and orchestral ensembles.

As a trombonist, Globokar has performed with some of the leading orchestras around the world and has premiered many new works for the instrument. He is also an accomplished conductor, having conducted both contemporary and classical works with many orchestras and ensembles.

One of Globokar's most famous compositions is "Discours II" for five players, which involves the players vocalizing, speaking, and performing instrumental techniques simultaneously. Another notable work is "Echanges" for trombone and orchestra, which explores the dynamic relationship between the soloist and the orchestra.

Globokar has received numerous awards and honours, including the Grand Prix National de la Musique and the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in France. He continues to be an influential figure in the contemporary music scene, inspiring generations of composers to explore new forms and techniques.
