Vincent O'Brien was an Irish composer, organist, and music teacher who lived from May 9, 1871, until June 21, 1948. He was a significant figure in early 20th-century Irish music and worked as a church musician ), progressing through a series of significant Catholic sacred music appointments. O’Brien worked at churches such as Rathmines parish church and Dominic Street. He also composed organ and choral music throughout his career, in addition to writing a number of songs. O'Brien may have been less important as a composer, but he is still well-regarded in Irish music history. He wrote the opera Hester in 1893. O'Brien was known for teaching many popular Irish singers of the time, including John McCormack, Margaret Burke Sheridan, and James Joyce.
