Short bio Victor De Sabata
Full biography Victor De Sabata
Victor De Sabata was an Italian conductor and composer, born on April 10, 1892 in Trieste, Italy. He was known for his distinguished career as an operatic conductor, and he was regarded as one of the most prominent conductors of his time. He was also a talented composer and musician, playing both the violin and piano.
De Sabata's father was a choirmaster, and his mother was of Jewish descent and a talented amateur musician. He began his musical career as a violinist in the orchestra of La Scala in Milan, where he soon became known for his conducting skills. He quickly rose to international fame as a conductor and worked with many of the leading orchestras of his time, including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
De Sabata's conducting style was characterized by his attention to detail and his ability to bring out the emotional core of the music. He was particularly known for his interpretations of Romantic repertoire, including the works of Beethoven, Brahms, and Wagner. He was also a prolific composer, although his compositions are less well-known than his conducting. Some of his most notable works include the opera "Il Macigno" and the ballet "Venus Victrix".
Throughout his career, De Sabata received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to music, including the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. He died on December 11, 1967 in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century.
