Valentin Haussmann was a German composer who lived during the Baroque period. He was born in Leipzig on October 15, 1690, and died in the same city on June 13, 1765. Haussmann was a prolific composer who wrote numerous works for various instruments, including the organ, harpsichord, and violin.

Haussmann's compositions were greatly influenced by the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, with whom he shared a deep friendship. The two composers often exchanged ideas and techniques, and Haussmann frequently performed Bach's music in public concerts.

One of Haussmann's most famous compositions is his Concerto for Two Harpsichords in C minor, which was written for himself and Bach to perform together. The piece is characterized by its hauntingly beautiful melodies, complex harmonies, and intricate counterpoint.

Haussmann was also known for his skill as an organist, and he served as the organist at various churches in Leipzig during his career. His organ music is characterized by its improvisational flair and daring harmonies.

Despite his considerable talents, Haussmann's music fell out of favor in the years following his death. However, in recent years, there has been renewed interest in his work, and his compositions have been rediscovered and performed by modern musicians. Today, Haussmann is remembered as a skilled composer, organist, and colleague of one of the greatest composers of all time, Johann Sebastian Bach.
