Valborg Aulin was a Swedish composer who lived from January 13, 1860 to March 18, 1926. She was considered one of the most successful female composers of her time in Sweden and made significant contributions to Swedish classical music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Aulin's music career took off in 1884 when she premiered her first work, a piano quartet. Her music was received positively by critics, and her style was often described as romantic with influences from Scandinavian and German folk music.
Aulin composed a vast array of music throughout her life, including chamber music, choral works, and solo instrumental pieces. She was also known for her operas, and her most significant work in the genre, "Baldur's Dreams," was well-received when it premiered in 1907.
Aside from her compositions, Aulin was also an accomplished pianist and often performed her own works in public. She was appointed as a court pianist to King Oscar II of Sweden in 1886, which helped to raise her profile even further.
Later in her career, Aulin focused on promoting and supporting other female composers. She co-founded the Swedish Women's Society for Music and was also a member of the International Council of Women, where she advocated for women's rights and gender equality.
