Tyagaraja was a renowned composer of Carnatic music, a classical music form popular in the southern part of India. Born in 1767 in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, Tyagaraja is considered to be one of the greatest composers in Indian history, and his works are still performed today.

Tyagaraja began his musical journey at a very young age and was trained by his scholar-father Rama Brahmam. Tyagaraja was a devoted follower of Lord Rama and this devotion influenced his music, which he claimed was a way of worshipping the Lord.
