Full biography Tilo Medek
Tilo Medek was a German classical composer, musicologist, and music publisher who was born on January 22, 1940, in Jena, Thuringia, Germany. He grew up in Thuringia and studied musicology in East Berlin starting from 1959. In 1964, he wrote his thesis in musicology about Die Vertonungen von Goethes. Medek's works include organ works, choral music, string quartets, and orchestra music. He also wrote a marimba concerto in 1976, which was a rare feat in classical music because composers typically did not write for the marimba.
Medek was the son of Willy Mller-Medek, a chamber musician and composer. Tilo Medek changed his name from Tilo Mller-Medek to Tilo Medek in 1972. He also established the music publishing company Edition Musica Rinata in 1979, which published works by contemporary composers and reissued music by historic composers.
Medek passed away on February 3, 2006, leaving behind a significant musical legacy. His compositions reflected his technical skill and artistic expression, earning him international renown among the classical music community. Medek's music is still performed and celebrated today, ensuring that his contributions to music continue to live on and inspire future generations.
