Thomas German Reed, also known as German Reed, was an English composer, musical director, actor, singer and impresario born on June 27, 1817. He was known for his work in English operetta, specifically opra-bouffe. In 1855, he founded the German Reed Entertainments with his wife, Priscilla German Reed. Together, they produced and performed in many successful shows, including their most popular work, "The Beggar's Opera."

Outside of his work in the entertainment industry, Reed also composed a number of songs and musical pieces. He was a talented musician who played both the piano and the violin. He collaborated with a number of well-known composers, including Alfred Cellier and Arthur Sullivan.

Reed is also known for his role in the popularization of the one-act musical comedy, which he brought to the forefront of the English stage. One of his most famous productions was "Cox and Box," a comedy that he took up two years after it was written by F. C. Burnand and Arthur Sullivan.

German Reed was an influential figure in the English entertainment industry of his time. His legacy continues to be recognized today, as he played a significant role in the development of modern English musical theater.
