Thomas Ford (c. 1580 – 17 November 1648) was an English composer )), lutenist, viol player, and poet. Not much is known about his early life. However, he was admired for his musical talents, which led him to become a well-known composer during his time. Ford wrote anthems for 3 to 6 voices, four sacred canons, 35 partsongs, and many instrumental pieces. He was also recognized for his poetry, which was set to music by other composers as well.

One of his most famous pieces is the madrigal "Since First I Saw Your Face," which has remained popular to this day despite its age ). His music was appreciated by his contemporaries and continues to be performed by vocal and instrumental ensembles globally. Apart from the music, Ford was also recognized for his contributions to poetry. His most famous poem is “I did but see her passing by, And yet I love her till I die,” a verse that has been set to music by many composers over the years.

Although not as widely known as other composers from his era, Ford left a significant legacy and is still remembered for his musical and artistic contributions. His works continue to be performed and studied by scholars and musicians alike.
