Theodore Holland was a British composer who lived from 1878 to 1947. He was known for his contributions to classical music and his wide range of compositions. In 1902, Holland composed a children's opera titled "King Goldemar." He also wrote new songs and composed in almost all major classical forms. Holland's service in the Great War earned him two mentions in dispatches and an OBE.
Holland is one of the lesser-known British composers , but he left a significant impact on the classical music world. He was a contemporary of the likes of Elgar, Vaughan Williams, and Holst. Holland's music, despite his relative obscurity today, was widely received and performed in his time.
Helen Grime, a young British composer who won a British Composer Award in 2003, was awarded the intercollegiate Theodore Holland Composition Prize in the same year. Lara Poe, another Finnish-American composer, also received the Theodore Holland Intercollegiate Composition Prize.
