Theo Loevendie is a Dutch composer born on September 17, 1930 in Amsterdam. He is known for his works in both jazz and concert music, and has composed operas, chamber music, orchestral works, and more. Loevendie began his career as a jazz saxophonist and clarinetist, but eventually turned to composition in 1968. He has been a central composer at many festivals and has given master classes all over the world. Some notable works by Loevendie include his operas Naima and Gassir the Hero, as well as his Ackermusik for string quartet.
