Svend Simon Schultz (1913-1998) was a Danish composer and conductor born on December 30 , 1913 in Nykobing Falster, Denmark, and died on June 6, 1998. He was a prominent figure in Danish music in the mid-twentieth century, known for his imaginative use of tonality and innovative compositional techniques.
Schultz began his musical career as a pianist, studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen in the 1930s. He later turned to composition, studying with the prominent Danish composer Vagn Holmboe. After completing his studies, Schultz held various music-related positions throughout his career, including posts as conductor and teacher.
Schultz's music is characterized by its lyricism, tonal clarity, and expressive use of harmony and melody. He was particularly noted for his works for solo piano, as well as for his chamber music, which includes several works for wind quintet.
