Full biography Stephen Heller
Stephen Heller was a Hungarian pianist, teacher, and composer who lived from 1813 to 1888. He is known as a post-romantic composer who wrote extensively for the piano, with over 150 works to his name. Heller was recognized for his ability as a composer and arranger who earned a modest living writing piano fantasies on popular music of the day , doing piano. He was also one of those 19th-century composers who wrote almost exclusively for their own instruments. Unlike other such composers who wrote predominantly for the virtuoso performer, Heller's works were designed for the accomplished amateur, being highly lyrical and expressive in character. Heller's first attempt at writing in larger forms was arrived at in his Op. 9 and his Composes Jean Paul: The Blumen-, Frucht-, Und Dornenstücke (Flower, Fruit, and Thorn Pieces) is considered one of his most significant works. Overall, Heller was an accomplished composer and pianist whose music continues to be studied and performed today.
