Full biography Siobhan Cleary
Siobhan Cleary is an Irish composer born in Dublin. She started her music education at an early age by studying piano and violin. Her interest in music continued to develop throughout her teenage years, leading her to pursue formal music training. She studied piano performance and composition at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
Cleary's music has been described as "contemporary classical" and is influenced by Irish traditional music, which she incorporates into her compositions. She has composed music for various ensembles including orchestra, chamber music, choir, and solo pieces. Her work has been performed in Ireland and internationally.
Cleary has collaborated with various musicians and artists and has composed for film, dance productions, and theatre. She was nominated for an Irish Times Theatre Award in 2014 for Best Original Music for her work on the play "The Dead School".
In 2016, she was commissioned by the National Concert Hall in Dublin to compose a piece for the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. The work, titled "Lenticular", was premiered in January 2017.
Cleary has also been involved in music education, mentoring and leading workshops around Ireland. In 2020, she was appointed Head of Composition at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and continues to influence and inspire the next generation of composers.
