Simon Ives was an English composer and organist who lived from 1600 to 1662. He was active in the court of Charles I of England , and has been noted for his contribution to the genre of pastoral dialogues. In addition, Ives was also a skilled lyra-violist.
Ives composed several pieces of music during his lifetime, including instrumental works and pastoral dialogues. He is considered one of the outstanding composers of his time in the genre of ayre. Along with John Jenkins, he is credited with popularizing instrumental ayres during the Renaissance period.
Ives was known for combining the choral style he learned from his mentor, with his own unique off-beat ideas. He wrote music that stood out due to its experimentation and originality, and has been credited as one of the pioneers of the early modernist movement in music.
