Simon Emmerson (1956-2023) was an English musician, record producer, composer, and guitarist. He was a founder of the bands Working Week, Weekend, and Afro Celt Sound System. Emmerson also initiated The Imagined Village, a project that explored British traditional music.
Born in Wolverhampton, UK, Emmerson studied Natural Sciences and Music Education at Cambridge University. He was a writer on electronic music since the early 1970s, and his compositions often involved live electronics.
Emmerson was known for his rich and diverse musical career. He worked with Baaba Maal, the Clash singer Joe Strummer , and Lush Pioneer Mark Costantine. He was also an ornithologist and loved incorporating nature sounds in his music. Moreover, he composed the score for Lush Spa, writing music that was infused with the sounds of nature.
Emmerson passed away in March 2023, leaving a considerable impact on the music world. He will be remembered for his unique sound, and his contributions to British traditional music and electronic music.
