Full biography Seymour Barab
Seymour Barab was an American composer and cellist who was born on January 9, 1921, and passed away on June 28, 2014. He was known for his work in opera, songs, instrumental, and chamber music. Barab wrote numerous operas, including whimsical chamber operas, which received critical acclaim. He was also an advocate for contemporary music and worked tirelessly to promote the works of other composers.
Barab began his career as a cellist and performed with various orchestras before turning his attention to composition. In addition to his work as a composer, he was also an accomplished teacher and taught at a number of institutions, including the Juilliard School of Music and Brooklyn College.
Some of Barab's most notable works include "The Maker of Illusions," "Little Red Riding Hood," and "Songs of Perfect Propriety," which features the poetry of Dorothy Parker set to music. He was also the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
In addition to his contributions to the world of classical music, Barab was also known for his friendly and outgoing personality. He was a beloved figure in the music community and will be remembered for his contributions to the art form.
