Sebastian Anton Scherer was a German composer and organist of the Baroque era , born on October 3, 1631, in Ulm, Germany. He was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach and an important composer of his time, though his legacy is relatively lesser-known compared to some of his peers.

Scherer was born into a musical family and received his early education in music from his father. He later studied music in Strasbourg and became an organist and composer in various churches in Germany. He was particularly known for his work in writing sacred music, including numerous choral works, cantatas, and organ pieces.

One of Scherer's most significant contributions to music was his work on the Trio Sonata, a Baroque form of chamber music typically consisting of two high instruments (such as violins) and a bass instrument (such as a cello or bassoon) with a keyboard accompaniment. Scherer was known for his intricate and technically challenging Trio Sonatas, which were highly regarded by his contemporaries.

Despite his impressive body of work, Scherer's legacy has been somewhat overshadowed by the likes of Bach and Handel, who also wrote during the Baroque era.
