Full biography Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia
Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia was a Spanish composer and organist , born on August 15th, 1561, and died in 1627. He is considered one of the most important composers of the Spanish Golden Age. Very little is known about his life, but his surviving works demonstrate a high level of musicianship and are regarded as some of the finest examples of Spanish keyboard music from the period.
Aguilera de Heredia's surviving works consist mostly of keyboard music, including organ toccatas, ricercars, and variations. Some of his most famous works include "Tiento Partido de esa Cua," "Himno Pange Lingua," and "Variations on the Hymn 'O Gloriosa Virginum'". These works showcase his affinity for complex counterpoint and his ability to elegantly fuse the Spanish and Italian musical traditions.
Today, Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia is remembered for his significant contributions to early keyboard music. His works continue to be performed and studied by musicians and scholars alike, as they offer a glimpse into the musical landscape of Spain during the Golden Age.
