Sandeep Bhagwati is a German-Indian composer of Western classical music , writer and academic teacher. He was born on June 4, 1963, in Bombay (now Mumbai) to a German mother and an Indian father. He is also a poet, theatre director, visual artist, and researcher. He currently teaches music at Concordia University Montréal and is the director of matralab, a lab for research-creation in the live arts.

Bhagwati's compositions often incorporate elements from Indian classical music and he is known for his ability to bridge Eastern and Western musical traditions. For instance, when the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra commissioned him to write a piece for their Indian tour , he recalled Indian melodies and incorporated them into the composition.

Apart from his musical work, Bhagwati has written a number of radio features and plays and also authored several academic papers on music and related topics. He is an internationally renowned composer, theatre director, and media artist, and has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work.
