Samuel Arnold was an English composer and organist ), born on August 10, 1740, in London. He began writing music for the theatre around 1764 and established his reputation by writing songs for Vauxhall and all-sung burlettas for Marylebone. Arnold became the composer to Covent Garden theatre , where he wrote many operas and The Prodigal Son. He also composed for oratorio music, the church, and other musical works. Arnold's notable contribution includes his 180-part edition of George Frideric Handel , which was left unfinished and considered defective by later generations. He died on October 22, 1802. Samuel Arnold's musical legacy remains an essential part of the English musical scene and provides a valuable insight into the dynamic artistic and cultural milieu of his era.
