S.P. Somtow, born Somtow Sucharitkul, is a renowned Thai-American composer, author, and filmmaker. He was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1952 and raised in England and Thailand.

Somtow started writing music at a young age and was soon recognized for his prodigious talent. He studied music at Eton College and then music and composition at King's College, Cambridge, UK. He later continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City.
